You could use the MenuEditor to move all of the submenu items to "Invisible", leaving just the main items you want to see.

The ASX file is just a wrapper around a tivo:// link. Save As the asx link, and open in a text editor. It should look like so:

Sounds like your RowFormat is hosed up. Go to System->RowFormat, select "Deleted" and then press the "Reset to Default" button.
