I do believe that the readme with tytool5 states to use the /hack directory, not /var/hack. Try putting the files there.

You're correct. The drive must be mounted rw before running mvchannels.

I use the cap method and it works fine. The Dtivo shows that the call fails due to the lack of a dial tone.

Here is how I got mvchannels to work.
I reloaded the drive with 25xtreme
Created a directory called /hack2
Put mvchannels, channels.dat and main.dat in the /hack2 dir
Got mvchannels working...

I only changed the first one. It won't hurt to change both.

To get mvchannels to work you need to edit one line in rc.sysinit. Add /tvlib to the path and reboot.

PATH=/bin:/sbin:/tvbin:/devbin:/tvlib
export PATH
