Well, since your only using the DirecTv feed for the EPG this would work. The EPG is only downloaded in the middle of the night.. the other times it's not being used, unless you tune into a Directv...

1) If this brand spanking new.. it needs to make the initial phone call.. AFter that you can just pull the phone line... So just take it to a friends house that has a land line and make the initial...

1) Just call Direct and tell them you don't have a phone line. (moved to Vonage, etc)
2) On the Series2 DTivo, you will just get an error message, so just delete it.
