    Field order in extracted videos?

This has been touched on in a few other threads, but there didn't seem to be any clear consensus.

Was it ever determined if the field order is consistent from program to program on the TiVo?

If it is, what is it?

If it's not, what's the quickest way to tell what it is for a given video?

Can't say for sure. Seems to always be Field A for my Sony SA. I've heard Dtivos are B.

You have to see it on a TV. Burn a segment to a DVD-RW, put a menu on it (my Apex takes forever to decide it can read it unless it has a menu), then watch it. If the characters ****-about, the field setting's wrong.

Keep in mind that choosing A or B makes the encoding go faster, but yields a bigger file, while the reverse is true if you select Settings->Advanced->Deinterlace (double).
