token that allows the acceptance of v3.1?

PGM had mentioned something about a token (SW_rollout_252sat_001) that allowed acceptance of the v252 upgrade ===> http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/sh...threadid=14071
Anyone know if there is a similar token for v3.1?

I'd be interested in the same info obviously, but first a stupid question...

I believe (someone confirm/deny, please?) that 2.5.2 came over the stream as part of a service download whereas 3.1 is supposed to come via the phone line (at least from what I've been reading)...

So I'm not sure that a token would do anything in this case.... for those who aren't dialing in, that is...

2.5.2 did not come down over the stream. Only one person reported that it may have, but it was most likely he left it plugged in or misconfigured his network settings. And just to be rational, there is no reason TiVo would have split the distribution method, unless they were wanting a disaster. Further, if they had switched to stream software upgrades, DTV sure as hell would be using that for 3.1, which they are not, simply because of the cost factor. Satelitte bandwidth is free to them, dialup pools and lines to send it out is not.

As for tokens, they are set during the daily call and verified during each call. I don't think just adding the correct token would give you the update without some heavy interaction into the update process.

Thanks for putting the tall tail about upgrades over the stream to rest.

I still wonder why a token wouldn't work for v3.1 over dialup. I thought PGM had discovered something that worked for v252 that might carry over to v3.1. Oh well I guess the SC process is different and it's just a matter of time before they will open up v3.1 to everyone.

    Tall tales, hmmm.

I guess these did not happen then:

    aval_file TCD_ID=0110000xxxxxxxx CALL_ID=10xx367362 TIME=1021444239 AVAL_ID=00002Exxxxxxxxxx FILE_NAME=SwSystem/3.1.E7-01-1/GZbin-6262319-1.slice.gz FILE_STATUS=IGNORE_NOT_IN_GROUP

    aval_file TCD_ID=0110000xxxxxxxx CALL_ID=10xx061594 TIME=1022135453 AVAL_ID=00002Exxxxxxxxxx FILE_NAME=SwSystem/2.5.2-01-1/GZbin-6338385-1.slice.gz FILE_STATUS=IGNORE_NOT_IN_GROUP

I have used these NON events myself to upgrade some receivers via the non available stream downloads!

Thank You PGM for finally putting this download from the stream to rest!

    You are as always correct!

Let me clarify, I never said it couldn't be gotten via the stream, I only said that isn't how they distributed 2.5.2 and apparently 3.1.

What is possible and what the corporate action will be are very rarely the same. They have money riding on it, so they typically take the safe route.

Thanks, PGM. I would have thought that if they had the capability to upgrade via the stream they would be doing it for v3.1. Who knows what's going through those corporate minds. Look out for the next one, all.

    Exclamation 2.5.2 over stream

I got 2.5.2 over the stream after taking PGM's excellent (as usual) sc.tcl file and modifying it to put the update tags in, along with some more manual stuff which I have forgotten.

I know 2.5.2 came down over the stream because my DirecTiVo has _never_ had a phone line plugged in.

You sure the update didn't come over a turbonet card or something?

what is it that you people can't seem to understand. tivo can deliver any type of data via the service downloads that come down via satellite. they are all gziped slices, the content doesnt matter. many people recieved 2.5.2 via satellite by using the sc.tcl script that PGM made and using the proper DataGroups. People, why is this even an issue, we know it happened, its a fact.

Also, to date, the final version of 3.1 has not been sent down via the satellite stream. This is probably due to the fact that it is in controlled rollout only to those who have P4 cards.

sorry, i dont mean to be rude, but it was stated multiple times in this thread that people were able to update via the stream, so why does it keep getting asked

    2.5.2 over stream

Forge: nope -- don't have a turbonet yet -- still using serial cable

mrblack51: I'll let it rest now . Just didn't want people to read some of the posts in this thread and think "I won't get updated against my wishes as long as the phone line isn't plugged in"

If you change the tokens to force the software upgrade can you hack the gzip slices before it's installed so you don't have to install your HD in a computer?

    newbie

Yes, providing your prom is already hacked you can modify the installSw.itcl script to kill the initrd, add bash to rc.sysinit, etc. This is what v25xtreme does.

Did you find the token name for 3.1?
