Which update to install?

Okay, there are so many updates out there now, I'm a bit confused as to which to install. Here is my case:

Sat-T60 running 25xtreme. I'm about to install a nic. Wish to try extraction soon. Wish to keep ability to use a hu and don't really care about 3.1 features.


I've read that Kraven's upgrade to 2.5.2 has bugs on the T60. I've read that a lot of goodies don't work on 3.1. Now there are newer upgrades that are out. I'd like to make the upgrade without losing current programs/etc if possible.

Which one should I use and why?

I am in the same boat as you...well almost.

I have a DSR6000 with Surgeon's Xtreme 2.5 image on the drive.
No other hacks have been performed on the unit except the sub hack.

Now that Kraven has released an update to the image(s) which nicely adds alot of features.... SuperZap releases and upgrade also which seems just as sweet.

My question is, which upgrade should I apply to my Phillips machine?. Is there any dis/advantages over the two upgrades?.

I'm going with SuperZap's upgrade mostly for 2 reasons.

1. It allows you to upgrade to 2.5.2 and not all the way to 3.1. No P4 here so 3.1 is useless to me.

2. It includes XplusZ which is a GREAT util with some great hacks.

I would listen to Yazhol's advice. If you're not sure what you're getting into with v3.1, go with the v2.5.2 upgrade. You can always do v3.1 later.

Got to www.tivostuff.com and download xupgrade.zip and follow the readme.

The main featureas and benfits follow:

Superzap's:

Goes to 2.5.2 or 3.1, but will not go from 2.0
Includes xplusz
With 2.5.2, no special hack or P4 required
With 2.5.2, no TiVo PVR tier needed on card
Doesn't mess with season passes or recordings

KRavEN's:

Minimal 3.1 install with only the absolutly essential hacks
Will upgrade 2.0 image as well as 2.5 and 2.5.2
Has seperate modules for each hack so that you can choose which ones you want
the 3.1 xplusz works very well with this image, doesn't conflict with hack modules, and if you uninstall, all previous hack modules will be active again
Doesn't mess with season passes or recordings

So you essentially need to decide what you want.
If you're a newbie that just wants it simple and everything done for you, go with superzaps upgrade to 2.5.2.

If you're more into the DTV hacking so you can figure out how to get past the p4 and tier requirements and want the benefits of 3.1 with it's additional speed, features, and code maturity, then go with my update.

I myself don't want to upgrade to the 3.1 software version but would like to goto 2.5.2. My build is currently at the old level of 2.5.1.

Seems SuperZaps would be for a beginner to novice guy like myself. I will give it a try and see how it goes...

Kraven, thanks for the info. Thanks for all of your great work, too, we all benefit greatly from it and I wanted to thank you myself. I'm more into the DTV hacking BUT don't see any real need for 3.1. I'm going to go with 2.5.2 for now... thanks again!

Hey guys...

Just in the process of downloading the xupgrade.zip from the tivostuff website.

Looking at this file it is huge like 52.0 MB.
Based on my current download rate, I will be here until 10pm downloading this file. Can any suggest another place to obtain it.
I am running a cable modem and normally don't experience these slow rates.

Any suggestions?
