How to get to bash from Linux via a com port?

Well, needless to say I am trying to get into my DTivo on the cheap. It's a Hughes 1'st gen, fresh from the box.

How does one go about getting to bash from a Linux telnet session?

I normally access from work via "telnet IP address". I am guessing it's not going to be as easy as "telnet /dev/ttys0" is it?

Or a nice X based app would be even better. I have read a lot about how to do this in windows but little about accessing the TIVO via the COM port Linux to Linux. I do think it would be cute if i could get the Windows app functional under Wine.

Just wondering before I start playing.

    Thanks in advance.

It's been a while, but with some messing around you can get minicom to work fairly eaisly. Like I said though it's been a while since I've messed with minicom so the best advice I can give you is RTFM
