I've read about setting up my tivo as "tivo" in the
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file
I tried adding...
192.168.123.140 tivo
to the hosts file and rebooting, but I cannot ping tivo.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

You've got to make sure that after you input the ip address you don't <space> but <tab>. Thanks probably your problem.

Did you get your Windows machine to see the Tivo hostname? This is the last thing I want to do.
If you learned how to do it I'd appreciate hearing the how to.
Thanks!

Well, I'd like to be able to access tivo as the host name rather than IP address. The command I am using now allows the routing table to see the hostname of tivo but tivo can not be seen if I call it by name. :-)Originally posted by tiivohoe
Why?
I'm wondering if someone could tell me what I have done wrong..
Thanks!
