Pioneer Elite DV05 (failure) and Marantz DV8300 (success, mostly)

    Two players to report here...

    First one:
    1- Brand/make/model/year?
    Pioneer Elite DV05 (1996?)

    2- Software to split/process TyStream?
    TyTool

3- Software to create DVD fileset?
    TyTool -> cdrecord (Linux)

    4- DVD success or failure?
    Failure.

5- Description of the DVD failure if there was one?
The DV-05 plays the dvd, but doesn't like 480x480 and puts it in the left hand 2/3 of the screen. Video doesn't play smoothly and audio sync is off.

    9- Short comment on report.
This is a pretty old Pioneer player that doesn't support a whole lot anyway.

    Second player...
    1- Brand/make/model/year?
    Marantz DV8300 (2002)

    2- Software to split/process TyStream?
    TyTool

3- Software to create DVD fileset?
    TyTool -> cdrecord (Linux)

    4- DVD success or failure?
    Success, mostly.

5- Description of the DVD failure if there was one?
The player plays the dvd fine, but won't show the main menu. When the display on the player claims it's showing the menu, only a black screen appears.

    9- Short comment on report.
The Marantz DV8300 is an enhanced version of the Pioneer DV47, so it may behave the same way.

When it reaches the end, it loops back to the beginning and starts playing again, instead of returning to the menu.

I incorrectly set the Audio Translation for the SA1 Tivo. What I got was very wierd. It plays but it is like in double speed mode through the first 10 Minutes of play and then corrects itself and plays perfect. The other DVD Player I have (described next) plays it perfect. When I correctly encode the audio stream it play perfect. Only 1 imprefect out of 5 so far.

6- Software to create SVCD fileset?
    MyDVD

    7- SVCD sucess or failure?
Success and failure. No option changes just one is blurry and the other (animation) looks good

8- Description of the SVCD failure if there was one?
    See above

    9- Short comment on report
Very inexpensive player. $69.00 (No Rebate) for a progressive scan DVD Player that has upgradeable firmware. Great deal and now my player of choice.

Interestig combo drive that was available at Target for a while. Think it was $169. Can dub from DVD to VCR. (My wife hates digital Audio and loves to convert DVD to VCR.)

    1- Brand/make/model/year?
ALL Sony or Panasonic models since beginning of 2002.

    2- Software to split/process TyStream?
TyTool for extraction. TyProcess/MPEG-VCR for processing.

3- Software to create DVD fileset?
Spruce DVD Maestro (See the link in my signature for my method.)

    4- DVD success or failure?
    100% success

5- Description of the DVD failure if there was one?
No failures. Most people that have encountered general failure, audio sync problems, etc. usually are not editing the material properly or authoring their DVD's properly.

    UK Xbox

    1- Brand/make/model/year?
XBOX Earlier one with the Thompson Drive

    2- Software to split/process TyStream?
    TyTool 7r8

3- Software to create DVD fileset?
TyTool 7r8 & Ulead Movie Studio
Tried using tytool to create the vob's then tried just extrcting the mpegs and using ulead to create the dvd.

    Burnt Via Nero 5.5

    4- DVD success or failure?
    Success using Audio Mode 7

5- Description of the DVD failure:

IF the audio mode IS NOT SET TO Mode 7
Plays too fast, I'm estimating 2x playback, Audio is fast but fine picture jumps, maybe it's skipping frames, rather than playing at 2x but the disk plays fine in PowerDVD on the PC

    9- Comment

Tried before without the audio set to mode 7.

    From UK SA Tivo.
    Using DVD+RW plays too fast,
Using DVD-RW won't play at all, the thing hangs on the menu section.

The machine will read +RW and -RW for backups of games so it's a menu on -RW issue not the xbox not being able to read the disc issue
Both +r and -r work fine once in mode 7

This one's already been listed but I used a couple of additional programs for authoring DVDs than what was previously reported.

    1- Brand/make/model/year?
Sony DVP-NS715P, purchased new in 2002

    2- Software to split/process TyStream?
    TyTool, tydemux

3- Software to create DVD fileset?
TyTool (every single version ever posted from day 1), TyStudio (earlier version; always had synch problems so stopped using it), IFOEdit, DVD Workshop, SpruceUp, DVD-Lab (DVD Patcher, MPEG2VCR, and TMPGEnc also used to help develop finished products).

    4- DVD success or failure?
Success with some exceptions (see below); have burned well over 500 DVDs to date, both DVD-R and -RW discs.

5- Description of the DVD failure if there was one?
Dolby Digital soundtracks way out of sync on long movies (i.e. 2-1/2 to 3 hours in length) when authored in SpruceUp. Latest TyTools works great with no synch problems. TyStudio edits were always out of synch with 1st version of program.

6- Software to create SVCD fileset?
    N/A

    7- SVCD sucess or failure?
    N/A

8- Description of the SVCD failure if there was one?
    N/A

    9- Short comment on report.
Nice DVD player. It's played evrything made from my DTivos with no complaints.
Please don't PM me or any other members looking for personal assistance. You'll do better by posting (after you've exhausted the search feature, of course) and taking advantage of the collective expertise of the membership instead of a single individual that may or may not be able to help you. 1- Brand/make/model/year?
    Panasonic RP-91

    2- Software to split/process TyStream?
    Tytool

3- Software to create DVD fileset?
    Tytool/MpegVCR

    4- DVD success or failure?
SVCD, not able to burn DVDs yet

5- Description of the DVD failure if there was one?
    NA

6- Software to create SVCD fileset?
Tytool=>mpg (make sure audio is 44.1Khz), MpegVCR mpg=>mpg (makes more compatible), TMPGEnc => multiplex mpg svcd (w/ VCD headers)

    7- SVCD sucess or failure?
    Success (see note below)

8- Description of the SVCD failure if there was one?
    N/A

    9- Short comment on report.
Audio must be transcoded to 44.1KHz when multiplexed in TYtool.

The mpg after saving again in MPegVCR must be re-multiplexed in TMPGEnc in order to fool the Panasonic RP91 into playing svcd. Go to file=>tools=>simple multiplex=>choose mpg=>change dropdown to VCD (standard is fine)=>multiplex. Burn as VCD in Nero, ignore incompatibility warning.

5- Description of the DVD failure if there was one?

    9- Short comment on report.

This is the first Toshiba unit I've heard of a success on - I assumed I'd be SOL but was very pleasantly surprised.

I extracted the .ty, then exported from TyStudio as DVD MPG2 with 4800k audio. Then used TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5 (great program!) to create the fileset and burned to a DVD-RW. First time it had no audio, so I changed from MPG1 layer 2 audio to PCM, then it worked great.

    I'm stoked

Just tried same disk on a friends Sony and that works fine too, but it looks like Sonys in general are good.

    So the list of questions:
    1- Brand/make/model/year?
Sony (I don't remember the model, but it's 5 years old)

    2- Software to split/process TyStream?
Tytool (in both mpg and .ty extraction)

3- Software to create DVD fileset?
    Ulead from mpg
tytool to dvd set via .ty extraction, then copied dvd set using Ulead
    tytool to dvdset, then Nero

    4- DVD success or failure?
Ulead from mpg: Failure - interlacing issue (instead of A:B, I was getting B:A. this made the frame go forward and then back about 1/4 step

tytool to dvd set, then copied dvd set using Ulead: Almost a success; it seemed to work until I got to the final 2 minutes of the show. Then another interlacing type issue came in (it's like I lost part of my signal). I'm not sure what happened there. I think this method has the most promise though

    tytool to dvdset, then Nero
I believe it will work on other DVD players, just not mine... I get the 2/3 wrap around issue to the other part of the screen. I'm going to test it out and I'll report back

5- Description of the DVD failure if there was one?
    see above

6- Software to create SVCD fileset? n/a
7- SVCD sucess or failure? n/a
8- Description of the SVCD failure if there was one? n/a

    9- Short comment on report.

I'd love some thoughts on a way to get a rock solid method of transfer.

I don't have the money to buy MPEG2VCR too.
