    New usb drivers

I just ran throught this process

I have a Dlink DWL-120 now working on my 4.0 unit, it is a Atmel AT76C503A 3861 unit as listed here . It was not recognized by 4.0 so I decided to try 4.0.1b to see if it was detected. Sure enough not only was it detected but the Tivo performed a firmware upgrade on it (kinda scary but I said ok). Setup networking all worked swell.

Now I didnt want to lose my recordings on 4.0 so here is what I did.

Copied all modules from /lib/modules to PC

    Reinstalled 4.0 drive

Moved all the /lib/module/*.o to a new directory.

Uploaded the modules I had taken off 4.0.1b drive and chmoded 644

    Rebooted

Wala the adapter now works on 4.0

    YMMV

fix "Acquiring guide data" bug in S2 v4.0

The attached patch will fix the "acquiring guide data" bug that manifested itself in Jan 2004. In addition to displaying that annoying message on the screen, *some* tivo boxes have real guide data problems due to this bug.

This patch is *only* for 4.0, which makes it useful pretty much only for S2 combo box users who updated their software themselves. S2 standalone users should not be at that "low" a revision number.

MuscleNerd, I believe I speak for all of us here when a say a big THANK YOU!!!.

Just patched tivoapp and finally that annoying message is gone. The menu navigation on those screens where the message was on, is now noticeably faster.

musclenerd, based on what i've read about this fix, is it possible that a similar patch would be workable for the pre-c revs of 3.x? not begging for a patch, just curious as to whether it's applicable.

When you say pre-c revs of 3.x, you mean for the S1?

The fix basically just does a software-based 64-bit arithmetic operation where the original 30-bit operation overflowed, so that approach is applicable to all versions with enough effort.

i was thinking for the s2 also; either 3.1.0x for s1, or 3.1.1x for s2.

interesting stuff; maybe i do need to dig out that disassembler again..

Well 3.1.1c for S2 is the official TiVo fix for this problem....that's why I figured you meant for S1. DTV is slowly rolling out 3.1.1c for the S2 combo boxes, but so far no word yet on if the fix will be available on S1 (or for standalone S2s for that matter).

Is this the same thing as is done in 3.1.1c?

I don't yet have 3.1.1c, which is why I'd love to see either a patch for 3.1.1b, or a place to DL 3.1.1c...

Even better would be for some kind soul to diff 3.1.1b and 3.1.1c, and provide just the changed files. (and maybe even a script to patch the entries in /SwSystem)

yeah, i just noticed that one of my s2 has downloaded and dbloaded 3.1.1c (i've got upgrades inhibited so it won't whack monte). i guess s1 is the bigger deal because the word on the street is that s1 may not get the c update.

This patch is based on the 3.1.1c fix. That release contained 25 changes relative to 3.1.1b (all within the single tivoapp program). I isolated the one change that was a fix for this bug, and extrapolated that to a fix for v4.0.

    New Backdoor?: Program Details

I stumbled on a backdoor today on my Tivo. Haven't seen this referenced before. Go to Now playing, select a program and hit the Enter key in the Program screen. You will see a Program Details screen that shows a a whole bunch of MFS details about the recording. Items of interest are "stream file size" and a list of "Similar Programs".

I had no idea "Late Show with David Letterman" was similar to "Friends".

Does anybody have the correct backdoor script for 4.0.1b? I tried two different scripts and the last one I tried (backdoor4.0.tcl) gave:
wrong software version? got hash value 61508C7FC1C2250E1794624D8619B9ED760FFABA

That's still 160-bit hash value, and there's only one place that Tivo uses a 160-bit hash value -- as the hashed backdoor. So override whatever check is complaining about its being wrong and just change it.
