    I just bought a used TCD240040 with no HDD in it. I have an extra 120gb drive I'm wanting to put in it. Anyone have an image I can use with mfstools to get this up and running again?

    Thanks!

    Here's minimal-7.2.2-oth.01-2-140.mfs that will work for both TCD140xxx and TCD240xxx. Your Tivo will update to the latest after a few calls.

    http://rapidshare.com/files/4965241/...2-140.mfs.html (click "Free" at the bottom, where it says "Select your download:")

    MD5: 46aec22a9bdbe17544c78f07410cc00d (check the MD5 with md5sums)

    BONUS: Here is a virgin 7.2.2-oth-K1 kernel.... you MUST run killhdinitrd 0.9.3 on this kernel to keep your hacks. If you use this kernel without running killhdinitrd on it, your hacks *will* be erased.

    These links will stay active as long as at least one person downloads them every 45 days... so if you found these useful, download them again every couple weeks to keep them alive for others.

    Here's a link for 6.2.dtivo.minimal.AlphaWolf_HK.zip (a.k.a. the 62small image)

    62small.mfs works with the following S2 DTivos:

    * Hughes HDVR2, SD-DVR40, SD-DVR80, SD-DVR120
    * Phillips DSR7000, DSR704, DSR708
    * RCA DVR39, DVR40, DVR80, DVR120
    * Samsung SIR-S4040R, SIR-S4080R, SIR-S4120R

    This image does NOT work with the R10 or the HR10-250.

    (I shouldn't mention it, but.... yes, you can use this image with The Zipper, just rename 62small.mfs to 000001 ... don't ask for more support than that.)

    When I go to restore this image i'm getting the following:

    Code:
    # mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi /dos/tivo/minimal-7.2.2-oth.01-2-140.mfs /dev/hdc
    Starting restore
    Uncompressed backup size: 946 megabytes
    Restore Failed: Error restoring partitions.%complete.
    #
    This happens almost imediately. Then I have to wait about 30 mins before getting my prompt back. Even after hitting ctrl-c multiple times.

    I checked the md5's and they match up.

    My setup is:
    hda: fat32 drive with image, mounted to /dos
    hdc: new tivo drive
    hdd: cd drive used to boot

    Any ideas? My only guess is that the drive i'm trying to restore to isn't a new drive and has a couple old partitions on it.

    Thanks!

    I searched google for that error and at the Instantcake (which uses mfstools) support forums a few people said it was a drive problem and that they had no problems when they tried it with a different drive.

    This drive was out of an xbox. I'm betting it is still locked. I'm going to try and unlock it this evening when I get home from work and see if it fixes it. If not I'll try another disk.

    Thanks for the info.

    saw it

    Yeah I saw that image but I was looking for one fully modded. I restored a 6.2 image to my DVR39 last night and HMO is working but not MRV. My other DVR7000 says it can't transfer shows to the DVR39 as MRV is not enabled. I did apply the latest superpatch and still no MRV. Also ran the set_mrv_name script.

    :-(

    Hacked images are in violation of the license agreements of various hacks, and not discussed here.

    You ran the superpatch and set_mrv_name on both boxes? Are either being allowed to connect to the mothership (either via dialup or network)? Odds are you managed to get yourself some keys assigned by Tivo, which you don't want.

    I've made a custom .iso that uses the MFSLive BootCD to restore AW's 62small image.

    UPDATE (1/22/07): New version, updated .iso to latest MFSLive version (beta6b)

    DOWNLOAD LINK: http://www.mediafire.com/?4knnm2jqoyr

    File Name: mfslive6b-with-62small.iso
    File Size: 90.21MB
    MD5: 490aa380b92cdb6a1434ab727236ce6e (check MD5 with MD5sums. Drag the .iso file ontop of MD5Sums.exe in a Windows Explorer window.)

    This .iso will restore and expand a fresh, unhacked image (AW's 62small image) onto a 2GB+ PATA (NOT SATA!!!.. as big a drive as you want.. even 750GB) hard drive for use in any of these TiVos:

    * Hughes HDVR2, SD-DVR40, SD-DVR80, SD-DVR120
    * Phillips DSR7000, DSR704, DSR708
    * RCA DVR39, DVR40, DVR80, DVR120
    * Samsung SIR-S4040R, SIR-S4080R, SIR-S4120R

    The 62small image does NOT work with the R10 (uses 6.1) or the HR10-250 (uses 6.3). No formatting, or any preparation, for the drive you will restore the image to is necessary.

    Restoring an image will OVERWRITE EVERYTHING on a drive.

    Instructions:

    1) Burn .iso, with Nero or the freeware ISO Recorder. After installing ISO Recorder, right-click the .iso file in Windows Explorer and click "Copy image to CD".
    2) Shutoff PC, connect the hard drive you wish to image, and disconnect any extra drives (to prevent you from accidentally overwriting them if you choose the wrong drive when asked.)
    3) Boot CD and wait for it finish loading. When it's done loading you will see "[mfslive:/]#"

    4) At that [mfslive:/]# prompt, type restoreimage and press enter.

    5)
    Read this information about drive locations in Linux and then press enter. Excuse the typo (accidently) ... it's not worth fixing.

    Once you press enter to go to the next screen, you will be shown a list of your drives. If your drive isn't listed, do not continue. Shutoff your PC (press CTRL+C to exit script and type poweroff) and check jumpers.
    (for the curious, I just put "dmesg | grep hd" and then "dmesg | grep sd" in the script to list the drives...)

    Under the list, you will be asked the three letter drive location of your drive.

    Then you will be asked to confirm the drive location you entered.

    The restore will begin. It took less than 5 minutes on my 40GB drive.

    As you can see, the restore is quick.

    Restore complete.

    Technical info:

    Restores the image with a 500MB swap (properly initialized thanks to spike2k5's MFSLive BootCD) and a -r 4 block size. I personally use a 127MB swap but a big swap matters to some people....

    The 62small.mfs file is inside the initrd so it gets loaded into memory at boot. This makes restoring much faster because MFSTools doesn't have to read the mfs image from the CD drive while restoring. Restoring is also faster because the MFSLive BootCD uses DMA mode by default.

    spike2k5's MFSLive BootCD has much better USB support. You can restore an image onto a drive inside a USB enclosure with this CD.

    EDIT: I've attached the screenshots shown above should they expire from tinypic in the future.

    Found a bug w/ mounting sata b drive so you might want to wait on distributing at least for few days so I can get the fixes out. Plus, I might be able to add dual expanded drives support.
