The first thing that comes to mind is you get a LEGAL copy of the Instantcake image from PTVupgrade. If that is indeed bad, you will have somebody to complain to. Alternatively, this thread discusses how to restore missing backgrounds.

The hard drive died on my SVR-3000. I'm replacing it with a 320 GB HD and I'm looking for a backup Image to restore from.
Someone sent me a copy InstantCake (IC2-SVR3000-7.2.0-oth-01-2-110.iso), but when I used it, I got missing background images, and frequent reboots.

What makes you think that they sell legal copies????, I doubt PTVupgrade licensed the Tivo software. They created a backup image and an installer script and packaged with the free tools. Should I really pay $20 for pirated software and an installer I don't need?
The problem isn't just that the backgrounds are missing, it's also unstable and rebooting.
You should research before you speak. PTVUpgrade has an agreement with Tivo and is legally selling backup images. Here's a tip: when a guy like PlainBill (join date 2002, thousands of posts, etc.) says they're legal, he's probably not just guessing.
Edit: his choice in sports teams notwithstanding.

Your best bet is to disconnect your Windows hard drive in your PC and boot with that PTVupgrade LBA48 boot CD (the free one should be fine). Use mfsbackup to make your own image, or simply use dd to copy the entire drive intact to a new drive. Its not that hard, and you'd be well on your way to being able to fix problems yourself.

Does anyone have access to a TCD240080 image? My hard drive has massive corruption. I also don't have easy access to a intel box so I am trying to restore with mfstools.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Okay guys. My sleeper DirecTV Tivo finally took a dump the other night, so I rebuilt the hard drive and now am running v6.2 of the software. What I need now is the 3.1.5 kernel so I can apply killhdinitrd.
Can someone point me to where I can download the 3.1.5 kernel? I've been searching for a few days now and cannot find the link.
Thank you.
I can't seem to get the update. Any images out there?

Any TCD240 image will work for you. There was a minimal 7.2 floating around edonkey, you can install on just about any size drive and then mfsadd to expand the recording space. This particular link might be old but you get the idea: ed2k://|file|minimal-7.2.2-oth.01-2-140.mfs|88704148|D3EBB179DD17E04E11CA2FDB9353F8CF|/|h=MWOIQQZYWW5K4DZ6IFCXCRWKSRZ7JOXR|/<br />
