joe editor on S2 .. revisited

I'm a brand new S2 user. 4 year veteran S1 user. I monte'd my S2 and got everything working okay. joe editor works marginally. I can create files okay. I can open and edit small files. If I open rc.sysinit, the text is scrambled. When I move the cursor, it only gets worse. It's almost as if ANSI is hosed.
My searches have only turned up works/don't work.
    Any ideas?

Try this in bash before running the editor:

    export TERM=xterm
    export LINES=XX

where XX is your screen length. (My LINES often comes up set to 65, for some reason, though my screen isn't that long.)

I really appreciate your reply and I thought what you suggested sounded right on .. but it didn't work.
Did you have any alternate ideas per chance?

Do a little research. Joe is 'broken', but can be easily fixed.

I already know that. I was just mentioning that it's funny how the sleepers script installs joe 'broken'... (not copying joerc to the proper directory).

Anyway, once I fixed that, I haven't had problems with joe.
