    can you try applying them?

or if you rather not, try going back to the original mfs_tarstream that's 70KB

edit: i'd try the patches first though.

inside mfs-utils_noarch-20050604.tar.bz2 (attached in the same post as the mfs-utils_bin.mips-20050604.tar.bz2) theres two files:

    Code:
    mfs_ftp.jbuehl.patch
    mfs_ftp.jamie.patch

send them to your mfs_ftp folder, telnet in and type these two commands in your mfs_ftp dir (jbuehl patch first):

    Code:
    patch < mfs_ftp.jbuehl.patch
    and then

    Code:
    patch < mfs_ftp.jamie.patch
Did this exactly as you described and both of them look to be working now. THANK YOU!. Any thoughts as to why this was necessary only on the stand alones? Is it something I should do to the D units as well?

There are two sets of installation instructions, one with the patch and one without. I'm recommending people go the unpatched route, unless they really want to use the bleeding edge, sorta works, insertion code in the patch. If you aren't doing insertion, either approach is fine.

np im glad i could help, if it works now as is, should leave it alone.
if theres a problem later on you should try the patch.

I just mentioned to Jamie a few seconds ago on IRC that I do all my insertion with tivoserver so I never noticed a problem with mfs_ftp's insertion and he said that's what he recommends for insertion.

I just installed mfs_ftp on my DTivo units running 6.2. When I try connecting I keep getting this message in the log file..

catch close lastsock val "can't read "info(lastsock)": no such element in array"
    02:23:46:PM - 220 Mfs_Ftp ver 1.2.9p - {sock22} from "192.168.1.165:3921"
    02:23:46:PM - 502 Command not implemented ""

I have mfs_ftp installed in the /var/mfs_ftp directory. I tried connecting using both SmartFTP and also command line from my windows machine. In both cases the same error appears.

I installed the original mfs_ftp 1.2.9, and then applied the new binaries according to the instructions for (non-patched) mfs_ftp.

I also tried commenting out all the event lines in the mfs_ftp.tcl file, but am still gettting the same error. I must be missing something, but can't figure out what it is. Any ideas?

Ok, nevermind.. I tried connecting using a different PC and it works ok. I'm thinking now that my anti-virus software is somehow blocking the request.. Grrr.. will look into that issue more.

mfs_ftp has recently developed a problem on my machine where it stalls. Downloads will go great - 1000k a second and then suddenly stall. After a few minutes, it will start up for a second and then stall again. It eventually ends up croaking and I have to kill the process. Is there a solution to this problem? I read of upload problems, but not download.

    I cannot extract using mfs_ftp.

I can see the listing but when I try to download (using windows explorer) it completes instantly but the file size is zero no matter which format (ty, ty+, tmf, asx) I tried to download.

    I have installed the
    1) unified mfs_* binaries in /var/myhacks/mfs_utils
    2) mfs_ftp in /var/myhacks/mfs_ftp
    3) I added above two paths to PATH and it seems set properly (i tried "which" command and it shows the proper path)

Previously I had some problem with tzoffset.itcl file and after reading one of the thread I created the tzoffset.txt file with -18000 (which I found out using "puts $chan [tr ... $::tzoffset"

Not sure what i am missing.
    My Tivo:

    -Telnet, FTP, TivoWebPlus
    -superpatch678all (record Unencrypted 8.3 tivoapp)

Try using a proper FTP client like SmartFTP or FlashFXP.

Also, post a copy of your port.3105.log.

I downloaded and used SmartFTP but still problem

    first there was this error
    syntax error in expression "

    invoked from within
    "init_procs"
    (file "/var/mkdir/mfs_ftp/mfs_ftp.tcl" line 1534)
then I tried to guess the erroneous line and replaced it to
    ((0x0$some_variable - 4) / 256) + 1

and then mfs_ftp.itcl started working but still uable to download

Why are you installing in separate directories? I'm not sure that's correct; all of the binaries need to be in the same directory, presumably /somewhere/mfs_ftp

    Hmmmm!!!

since they were all separate jar/zip file I thought it may be better to keep them in separate directories and not having to worry about any files from being overwritten if any.

May be that is the problem?

So should I just put everything (like mfs_*, tivoftp, tivowebplus etc) in one single directory like /var/myhacks/bin or something?

    With mfs_ftp, almost certainly.

Now let's not get carried away I would keep different programs separate like mfs_ftp & tivowebplus. FYI most here recommend against placing hacks in /var - b/c it can be overwritten by tivo if it gets too full. I must confess to having mfs_ftp and tivowebplus in /var; I like having /var/hacks b/c it's always mounted read/write. I do mirror important files in a /hacks directory off the root. I figure I can always rebuild mfs_ftp (actually I rarely use it, I use tserver (TyTool)) and TWP if /var get trashed. But I did copy tivoftpd into /bin so I'll always have my ftp w/out having to pull the drive...

So mfs_ftp, mfs_*, tserver etc must go in one directory say /var/hacks/bin
and maybe put TivoWebPlus in /var/hacks/twp or something.

But I did copy tivoftpd into /bin so I'll always have my ftp w/out having to pull the drive...
and I think I have already put tivoftpd in /bin for the same reason I read somewhere.

Before I had intalled all the bin utils I tried to use the sz/rz to put the ftp there but I could never get it right then finally I pulled the drive and put it there and now thanks don't have to use the sz/rz anymore.
