I have two RCA DVR40 Series 2 DirecTivos. When I run mfsbackup I get errors. I have the drives hooked up as follows.
PriMaster Fat32 Drive
PriSlave Cd-Rom drive
SecMaster Maxtor 40 gig Tivo Drive
I have tried to unlock the drive using "DiskUtil", it reports the drive is not locked.
When I boot off the MFSTools cd, I run the following commands:
mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/c
mfsbackup -f 9999 -6so /mnt/c/tivo.bak /dev/hdc
I get the following error:
Primary volume header corrupt, trying backup.
Secondary volume header corrupt, giving up.
mfs_load_volume_header: Bad Checksum.
mfsbackup: Backup failed to startup. Make sure you specified the right
device, and that the drives are not locked.
I have tried this on different computers, with both Tivo Drives and I get the same error. Please help, I am out of guesses.
You need to carefully read the output.

Since you know the drives aren't locked, then you probably specified the wrong device.
When you backup, first you specify what you are backing up, then where to back it up to...
I thought I may have been doing that, but no matter what order I try things in, I have no success switching the order or changing devices. If I do either I get a "No such file or directory", "Illegal seek", and "Input/Output error". I don't think it's a problem with the command I am using, I am confident I have the parameters correct, with the exception of the -f parameter. Does anyone know if there is something funky with the new Tivo's, more specifically with the new Maxtor drives?
