Is the intent to only allow individual people to install the hack manually on their personal tivo(s)? Which would mean it is really to keep the ebay and other resellers at bay.

I admire the intent. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

folks that need hand holding can get it with a ptvupgrade kit

since scammers trying to sell the util are costing ptvupgrade revenue ebay has a rea$on to enforce VERO restrictions (this has been a problem for me with mfs_ftp, how do you show damages when the util is free?)

So is killhdinitrd no longer going to be available for free for personal use? I see there was an update on 9/11/04, is there not going to be any more updates? E.g. for 3.1.5d, or for some future OS release?

I'm willing to help out with the source code changes, just curious what exactly happened/is happening here...

The license has not changed. You can submit patches if you want.

There is no real need for a 3.1.5d patch, as it's almost the exact same kernel as 3.1.5. But if you want to create one, go ahead, and submit it per the license terms.
