    sd-dvr40 to dial over internet

I have the hughes sd-dvr40 through direct tv. I want to connect it to my home network to use my cable modem for updates and down the road to communicate with my sony svr-2000. The sony now has a cache card and tivoweb+ - I'd like to know if I could 1st get the direct tv tivo to use my cable modem and 2nd if it can communicate with my svr-2000. Also would be interested if I could have it communicate with a pc like the svr-2000. Thanks...

Most of the S2 DTivo updates come via the satellite. I'm not
100% sure what the phone is actually used for after you
    make the original setup calls.

Anything you do with the S2 DTivos ( DVR40 ) means that
you have to hack the box in order to modify the kernel so
that it doesn't wipe out your changes that you make to the
tivo file system. The first thing an unmodified box does
is make sure that there are no new or changed files.
If there are, it restores them to the original files and
reboots... wiping out any of your changes.

If you want to do network stuff, you have to copy of the
usb drivers and make file system changes. In order to do
this... you have to killhdinitrd the existing tivo kernel.

The S2 section of the board has details on this.

Just a quick question, how to I connect to the dtivo? Do I just remove the drive? Is there a way to connect to it via ethernet?
