ok folks, it's that time again. I've been suckered into managing another bounty <eek>

the sw works, we need some incentive to make it public. the poll in 4.0 on Uma6/"RID" begging and proposed bounty indicates $2,500 or so of interest, the author(s) have indicated they'd like to see $5k so here's the deal

objective: raise $5,000 to provide for public release of a previously submitted package of updates to provide UMA6 (rid dtivo) support for 4.x sw

    time: through Monday Nov 15

once the challenge is met DDB staff & apropriate gurus will recieve copies to evaluate - barring any problems the sw + source will be released free to DDB members under a no-redistribution license to discourage ebay profiteering

same as last time, I'll be holding funds until the goal is met and functionality is verified. there are transaction fees 'n such, not to mention this is going to generate a TON of email so... minimum donation is $20

paypal rc3105@hotmail.com for credit card funded paypal and jc3105@hotmail.com for bank or echeck funded transfers

please include your dd nickname and indicate whether you prefer to

    (a) remain anonymous
    (b) have a post in this thread stamped with verified donor
    (c) appear in a list of donors in the third post

if you'd like to donate hardware please PM

funds/equipment will be returned if the software isn't released for whatever reason

the package provides UMA6 compatability for the 2.4.18 kernel + 4.x sw combination and lba48 support. tivo updated the dtv combo hardware, but didn't update the software, this fixes that oversight.

    implications for end users:

    folders

    better networking support

    multi-room viewing between tivos

mp3 audio streaming from a pc server

    large drives

users have been asking tivo for this since it was first introduced on standalone units early last year - perhaps this will convince them we mean it

    ?

So somebody can choose to (hypothetically) complete the challenge for less than the stated "goal" amount, correct? just clarifying.

    terms edited for clarity

the idea was to use the thread to keep track of donations instead of a poll

here's a thread for opinions & rants4.x on RID discussion, opinions & rants

here's relativly inactive thread for developing a free version 4.0 / 4.x on Uma6/"RID" boards (merged from: 4.0 & RID chip and others)

I just contributed $100. I see you edited the terms of the bounty, and now it doesn't say the money will be returned if the bounty is not met... I hope it was a typo

It's still in the last line of the post. All money will be refunded if working software is not released per the terms.

If you have a different solution ready and want to jump in, PM Riley. (Or just post it for free if that floats your boat.)

I don't; but the spirit of a "challenge" is more along the lines of a "competition" -- it's kind of anti-climactic if we know that someone already has it and that they're just waiting for a dollar amount...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that they don't have the right to, or that it's not fair or anything -- I'm just saying that it kind of takes some of the fun out of the process...

Anyway -- thanks for putting up the challenge - we all appreciate the extra effort.

The challenge has been running for a few months now. Any valid submission between 8/31 and next Thursday is eligible.

I'm glad somebody finally came forward with a solution; I was losing hope that we would ever see it.

Why? You are used to pay for your operating system, for your games, for your software, for your upgrades and such. I would gladly pay for a patch that adds functionality to my TiVo I currently do not have...

I originally paid $99 for HMO to TiVo, now it's free. If they are not briging it to DTivos, and somebody is, why not pay $99 to them?

I understand why they want $$$, but imagine if the very first TiVo hackers had wanted $$$? We'd be in a much different boat now.

Don't forget that we're mostly in the current boat because others have taken the very first TiVo hackers work to eBay, where they're selling it for a huge profit...

I wish humans weren't so evil, although I'm not sure why selling this stuff on eBay has anything to do with the current situation.

I'm just so happy someone actually is willing to post a 4.x on RID even if it costs $$$. I already contributed $100 so obviously I really want it.
