I know this has been covered before, but I can't find it any where.

My DVDs play fine in all of my DVD players (and a couple recorders) but the menu only flashes on screen for a half second then it begins playing the firs episode.

I can not return to the menu no matter what I do.
I'm making a batch of Modern Marvels DVDs for my dad, and the last one I sent him is doing this.

Is there a way to edit the build script to FORCE the DVD to work?

    Thanks,

Yes, I've only got the one router - its a SpeedTouch 716WL.

The PC is 192.168.0.3 and has an onboard 100BaseT interface. My laptop is 192.168.0.2 and has a PCMCIA 100BaseT card (or I've tried it using the same IP on a wireless PCMCIA card as well) All exhibit the same behavior.

No firewall on the PC or the laptop. The only firewall is on the router, and that is on the WAN side. I tried disabling that anyway, just in case, with no success. I even took the laptop back to Windows 2000, just in case the XP firewall (which was disabled) was causing it problems. Still no luck.

Just being one IP of several that do exist on your PC won't help unless the TiVo can see it - it has to be the correct one. This means either it is on the same subnet (192.168.0 if your netmask is 255.255.255.0) as the TiVo, or else there is a router between the TiVo and the PC which hosts both the PC's and the TiVo's IP, and it is the IP on which TyTool is actually opening a socket.

IOW, your PC could have two IP addresses on one interface, like 192.168.0.3 and 192.168.1.3, and a double-socket transfer won't work if you have 192.168.1.3 set in the Networking option of TyTool.
There is only 1 network interface active on the PC, and that is on 192.168.0.3.

I've tried both single and double socket mode, with no sucess.

Start TyTool, start the tserver, open a DOS CLI window, try to start a dowload in TyTool and immediately type "netstat" at the command prompt. What does its output look like?
The IP address and netmask are correct, and there is not routing between the two. I did try a cross-over cable between the cachecard and the laptop to eliminate the route completely, but that didn't get me any further. I'll get the output from netstat tonight (along with a network trace if I can).

    Any ideas?
Honestly, it seems like the easiest thing to do is skip all the checking of episodic,IsEpisode and TmsID, and just retrieve EpisodeTitle. If it has one, use it; if not, don't. You may want to keep the extra logic that deals with multi-part episodes though.

Since I don't know the history of this code, I decided to add the extra check for IsEpisode to be safe. This fixes my problem for the DTiVo and MRVed shows. I've attached the source file I changed and also new mips binaries for NowShowing and tserver. Jamie if you want to roll this into cvs let me know. Assuming anonymous cvs users have check in permissions I can do it with your permission.

I believe I can post these files based on the GPL license I see within the source code. Remember these files are my mods without official blessing of the code maintainer (Jamie). Use at your own risk.

    6/18/06:
I just replaced tserver and NowShowing. The previous versions weren't compiled with the TIVO and TIVO_S2 pre-processor flags and the resultant code was missing the Lowest Priority Fix. The new versions work properly.

    Bad Network

Well, you have me stumped. As a WAG, what is the MTU of your 100BaseT connection? Can you get your hands on a managed switch which has port mirroring capabilities?

I've found a lot on Dolby Digital 5.1 vs Mpeg II, but not exactly what I am looking for. I have several movies recorded from HBO or Showtime and they play in DD5.1 directly from the tivo. After tranferring them over using tytool 10r4 and runing the vob/mux, some of them get muxed in DD5.1 and others in mpeg II. I can't seem to see what the difference is - some just say "Detected Audio Stream Type: MPEG Layer II" and others say "Detected Audio Stream Type: Dolby Digital 5.1". Any idea what might be going on or how I can get the ones that think they are MPEG Layer II to be detected as DD5.1?

I could be wrong since I have never seen the code but the way I understand it is when the stream is first scanned it looks for a Layer II to AC3 change within a certain time frame. It then uses that to figure out what audio type the output stream will have. Unless you have the transcoding option set I do not think that TyTool would automatically convert any AC3 to Layer II audio. So one way to possibly fix the problem would to trim off some of the starting chunks to make the AC3 audio closer to the beginning then maybe TyTolol will detect it properly.

Yeah, I suspected the same thing. There is the option to "Set initial jump" which I tried so that it starts streaming in the middle of the movie, but it still shows up as Layer II. I also tried changing the audio settings to Digital, but then it would just encode in DD 2.0 and not 5.1.

    Pulling parts of a show > 32

I have a large file with 66 parts. It is 5 hours long and I want the last hour and 10 minutes of it. When I ran into the 32 part limitation of the GUI, I started looking at mfs_uberexport under cygwin. I can pull a whole show, but I dont seem to be able to start a certain TyStream. I would like about the last 16 parts. I can't seem to get the command formated right for the "-s" start offset either.

Have I missed a way around the gui for getting the parts?

    Thanks

    EDIT:

Looks like I a non-issue now. I got the command right for mfs_uberexport. If the -R is left off, multiple FSIDs can be specified.

    mfs_uberexport -v -o STS114.ty 1350009 1350011 1350057 1350074 1350076 1350078 1350080 1350113 1350124 1350177 1350280 1350389 1350454 1350462 1350466 1350537.

Just grab the whole show in TMF format with MFS_FTP and then use winrar to extra any "part" you want. That way you will have the show in "original" format.

ACK! Couldn't find the cc node? How did that happen? Tell jdiner.

Hi.. processing my way through a large number of ty's, hit this one that will only play the first 18 minutes or so via tyshow/vlc, on tivo its a good couple of hours long.. extraction method doesnt seem to help, tried tytools own & mfs-ftp.

Im guessing its about time to replace my tivos disk, since im getting semi-frequent glitches [sa tivo] which are not present on the source (confirmed with picture in picture) either that or my tivo is finally dying..

Anyway, the error requested I report it to you, so heres the log, if you require further info, or ty snippets etc, just send a pm, and i'll sort something out.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said!!!!!!

    Wow, this thing rocks!

Great interface and so easy to use. I just downloaded my first .ty, converted it to mpg and also then converted the ty to VOB - ISO and burned a test DVD
    Simply brilliant!!!!!!!

Incidentally I'm getting ~ 1.2megs/s download via a FA120 to 'G' gaming adapter to WRT54G router to which my pc server is attached by ethernet cable.
