    hostname

    well i finally have everything working...kinda. How can i give my Tivo a host name so i dont have to hit it by IP? HDVR2 6.2

    Put it in your DNS server, or add it to your hosts file.

    err was hoping not to have to do that since i dont have a name server...Why do windows machines know each others hosts names is that just a friendly windows thing?

    Just open up \WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and add something like 192.168.1.75 hdtivo and then you can just use "hdtivo" instead of the tivo's ip addy for your browser, telnet program, etc..
