    FTP problems

    Hi,

I am having problems with setting attributes. I've tried numerous FTP programs (FileZilla, CuteFTP, FlashFXP, etc.) and every time I try to change an attribute, I get "500 Syntax error, command unrecognized." What am I doing wrong?

I used InstantCake and PTVnet to update my TiVo (HDVR2).

    TIA

I would suggest you just might have answered your own question. For myself, I've found that opening a telnet session and using the chmod command works well.

    Thanks for the fast reply.

Telnet does work, but sometimes FTP is more preferable (easier, faster). I just want to figure out the nature of this problem.

The nature is that the Tivo's ftp daemon doesn't support changing attributes.

It is strange... many guides mention changing attributes through FTP...
