    VLC 0.8.4 Modules

Another VLC release, another batch of updated modules. Attached are the Mac OS X modules. Just untar and dump them in VLC.app/Content/MacOS/modules. This will overwrite the existing libty_plugin.dylib which has not yet been updated to tx314's latest code. Compiled and tested on a G5 iMac OS X 10.4.3, and additionally tested on a G3 iBook OS X 10.3.9.

Edit - added linux i686 binaries, rename osx binary file

Thanks for the modules. VLC streaming is much nicer in 0.8.4 since the "skip forward 1 minute" now works for me with streams. Not quite as good as 30 second skip yet, but it makes skipping commercials much easier.

Linux binaries are posted. You're on your own for Windows binaries.

Rather than ask you to fix it for me, could you list what it takes to compile it myself? I know I need the VLC and tivo-vlc source.

This is a pre-release version of 0.8.4, not the final release. Each release must be compiled separately for the plugins to work. In your case, you have three options for getting 0.8.4 plugins:

    1. Fetch the source for 0.8.4-svn20040920 using 'apt-get source vlc' and compile the modules from there.
    2. Add the appropriate software repository to your sources.list file listed at VideoLAN.org and download the 0.8.4 final release, then use the plugins attached to this thread.
    3. Compile 0.8.4 from source

Personally, I recommend option 2. It's probably the easiest.

    2. was easier

added deb http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/debian sarge main to the repoistory list, "reinstalled" vlc, fed it a tystream, and...

bash > vlc -vvv 'SCI FI Inside- Serenity-.ty'
    VLC media player 0.8.4-svn20040920 Janus

    BUT, it works! Thanks, SD.

Hey thanks a lot for the linux version, I've been trying to get this going for a while in Ubuntu now, finally managed to get the proper 0.8.4 and its all good.

I do have some general vlc tivo problems though, and they're exactly the same in windows and linux. I'm not sure if this is the correct thread for this but ah... what the hell.

One of the main problems I have is, say you've got a 2hr recording, I am unable to seek into the last 1/4 or so of the program. So what I mean is I can't move the progress slider to the last 1/4 without vlc crashing. But if I don't touch the slider, then it can play naturally into that last 1/4 segment itself without crashing. Again, this exact same behaviour is in both windows and linux with the same streams. The only other way to get to the end of the program is playing part of the stream ie /1 /2 /3 etc

Also I just get general crashes while watching a stream. I'll have to load vlc up again and skip ahead to where I last was, but it won't crash in the same place, which doesn't suggest a problem with the stream itself. It would be rare if I could watch even a 30min program without vlc crashing once.

Also, a couple of recordings I have of the cricket (go kiwis!) are over 4hrs each, but vlc only shows about 1:30hr of this. I can't get the exact time, because jumping to anything over 1:15 or so crashes vlc (see above problems). But 1:15hr is near the last 1/4 or less of what is available. Again, I can watch more of the stream if I queue up a bunch of tivo://tivo/123456/1 /2 /3 /4 etc but that's a real nuisance. And that also doesn't stop the general crashes that occur as explained above also.

Phew, so, does anyone else have these problems? Is it a problem with the plugins on my end (but two different running two different OSs, doesn't seem likely), or just a problem with the plugins in general. Is it a problem with the tivo, or vserver?

If anyone can help, or if you need more info on hardware/software/system setup, please get back to me.

    Thanks!

    what should
    vlc tivo://tivo/plist
do ( assuming I have vstream set up on 'tivo' ) ?

    vlc -f -vstream-cache=16384 tivo://tivob/1745622
works... ie. streams a show from my tivo.

    vlc tivo://tivo/plist
starts vlc... I hear my tivo disk access ( it's 12" away from
my keyboard ) and then vlc says:
    VLC media player 0.8.4 Janus
[00000276] main input error: no suitable access module for `tivo://tivo/plist'
should I 'see' my now showing list some how? I know that there is a
'fix' for mythtivo to work with the new 6.2 stuff and the older 4.x stuff.
It has something to do with the now showing display. Does this patch
need to be installed to get vlc to show you the results of the plist or
am I thinking it should do something that it doesn't?

    Thanks - jack

    Issues with VLC Modules

I am using a Series 2. It streams to Windows Media Player, but I cannot get vlc-1.8.4 to stream. I loaded the Windows Modules, but the player just flashes when I force the stream to it. Am I missing a setting in VLC? I could not find a thread for any settings, but something is not quite right. I prefer VLC to WMP.

did you find/load the win32 vstream plugin? vlc-1.8.4 won't stream from
tivo's vserver without the vstream plugin. This posts has the binaries for
mac and linux.... it said that your on your own for a win32 bin....

before I loaded the linux vstream plugin, all VLC would do was flash when
I tried to do a tivo://machine/fsid. Once I downloaded and installed the
    vstream plugin, it startd working.

Ok... I found that you run vlc tivo://tivo/plist and when it's 'done' , you
can go to the 'playlist' feature of VLC and see everything that is on your
    tivo.

I found them by searching for win32 vstream plugin. Loaded them to the plugins directory under vlc. Still just flashes the program. I then searched sorgeforce, found some different r45 files. Still no stream. Am I placing the files in the wrong directory?

Has anyone built an x86_64 version of ths patch? I'm going too, but if someone
has already done it, let me know. I am trying to get my new x86_64 system
up to speed for compiles.... some things aren't working without me making
changes to the Makefiles and I'd like to know if someone else has already
    looked at this.

    Thanks - jack

I'm using VLC .8.4a on a windows box and I'm attempting to stream and transcoded shows from the tivo. This works without issue most times but on some files I only get audio. All files work properly if I do not transcode them. I have attached log life from a non working file. I have also attached the VLC plugins that I got from the forums here in case they are needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
