Series 1 TiVos and the new US Daylight Savings

Is TiVo going to push out an update for obsolete Series 1 people to handle the change in start/end of daylight savings in the US?
Or is everything going to be screwed up just in time for the NCAA tournament???

Nothing will be "screwed up." TiVo does all scheduling based on UTC. Time offsets, including daylight saving time, only affect the display of times. It's a cosmetic problem, except possibly for manual date/time/channel recording. If you record from the guide or search, you're fine.

According to TCF the update for series 1 (3.5b) is in the process of being distributed.

According to this post by TiVo, SA S1's will not receive an update. Time display will be off but guide recordings will still work. Manual recordings will need to be redone to account for the hour offset.

Probably for the best anyway. If there was new software I might be tempted to call in and upgrade my unsubbed unit.

This way I don't have to worry about re-hacking the unit.

This is going to be very painful. I use lots and lots (over 50) of manual recordings, as I get several channels that are not in the guide. Worse, I am going to be out of town during this period, and thus not able to actually make the changes when required. So I am apparently going to miss my shows.

I had expected that since the Tivo is Linux based updating the clock to the correct time would be easy.

I am not looking forward to this. There must be a better way.

I need a way to either add channels to the guide, or else force the Tivo to reflect the correct time.

Oh well, it's only TV, I guess.

    Way to go DTV

Yeah they left a message on my machine today....isn't it amazing that they would wait until the day before the change to call?

    How professional!

    Xpluz

How will this affect those of us old timers still using XpluZ ? Also won't the tivo catch up when it adjusts to daylight savings time on the old date?

    Thanks

Yes, it will catch up in 3 weeks, then fall behind again in November, then do the same thing year in and year out.

Well, after the first day with this screwed up DST, I can say that my Tivo S1 has screwed up everything it recorded.

I can't believe Tivo treats their established customers this way, especially since they apparently already developed the S1 fix for the DTivo subscribers.

I'm a Tivo faithful, own two Tivos, bought Tivo back when they were obscenely expensive and no one understood what a Tivo was. I've recommended Tivo to all my friends.

    I'm very disappointed.

I'm just upset enough about this at the moment to consider some sort of legal action against them. Doesn't cost a lot to file a small claims court action, and their may be other ways to DIY a nuisance lawsuit. Not about getting any money from them, just make them release a patch.

Maybe if a few hundred individual users all filed nuisance lawsuits against them they'd get the message that this sort of crap is not acceptable.

Here's a workaround for the DST problem on S1 SA Tivos (I hope).

    Regarding Day Light Savings Time

Well I have a Hacked Series 1, simple fix I did which takes no brain power,
was because I read everywhere it was only a display issue.

So Im on pacific time, so i change my tivo to mountain time, which makes my display correct.

So if you Pacific time, just change the setting on the tivo thru the menus to mountain time.

Boom its fixed..... for now to the old Day light savings kicks back in april....

Well for now I dont have to mess around with it,,,,

    Good luck
