    file undelete 2009 utility can help. Speaking about me, it was
    easily able to restore lost partition, so I think you will
    also find it quite useful. Really recommended tool, give it a try.

    Anyone? I've got the automated extraction working well. I'd love to have it transcode to wmv so I can sync video with my Zune.

    I've got ffmpeg to encode a mpg from my tivo to a wmv with good results.
    Here is the code I used.

    Code:
    c:\ffmpeg\ffmpeg\ffmpeg-0.5>ffmpeg.exe -i heroes.mpg -vcodec wmv2 -acodec wmav2
    -s 320x240 -b 64000 -maxrate 850000 -bufsize 20480000 -ab 128000 -ac 2 -qscale 9
     heroesQSCALE9.wmv

    Did I write this wrong in the profile? I'm trying to make a profile to transcode mpg to wmv.

    Code:
    Transcoder.profile.zune=zune,ffmpeg,mpg, -y -i  - -target -vcodec wmv2 -acodec wmav2 -s 320x240 -b 64000 -maxrate 850000 -bufsize 20480000 -ab 128000 -ac 2 -qscale 9 -title "{Title}" "{OutputFile}"

    I can get tysuite to extract the mpg but I can not get it to transcode with any of the profiles. Help please. ffmpeg is located in c:\tysuiteJ_26\ffmpeg

    Finally. I've got it working. This is what my application.properties has in it. Its for a Zune 30 and my XBOX 360. I really have no need to transcode to any other format at this time.

    I'm using rev. 9767 of ffmpeg to encode to wmv. Newer versions of ffmpeg produced choppy wmv files. Also, I updated to a fixed version of NowShowing so the EpisodeTitles now appear properly.

    The Mac how-to was great, thanks for the work. Can I suggest that you make the "in path" directions a little clearer? maybe a description of where to find what the path is? I am a linux neophite and it took me a couple of hours to find that the path is found in rc.sysinit.author. This file is found on the tivo at /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author. The path is specified in a line similar to this:

    export PATH=$PATH:/sbin:/bin:/tvbin:/tivo-binnot mine just one I found that was an example)

    My understanding of this is that you can add to the path by placing a colon and then typing the additional path that you want. for me I just moved the 3 files to the path already specified in my rc.sysinit.author file. that was what made it work for me.

    Thanks

    Any tips on using a postprocess for automatic extraction?

    I'm trying to run a shell script (on MacOS X) for each show downloaded. I've got the script running fine, but I can't get TySuiteJ to run it.

    I've tried the following in my application.properties file:

    Code:
    Extract.postProcess=/bin/bash /users/ben/download.sh '{OutputFile}'
    and got the following error:

    Code:
    ERROR [extract.Extract] java.io.IOException: /bin/bash /users/ben/download.sh '/users/ben//CSI- Crime Scene Investigation - Hog Heaven.ty': not found
    I also tried:

    Code:
    Extract.postProcess=/users/ben/download.sh '{OutputFile}'
    and got the (similar) following error:

    Code:
    ERROR [extract.Extract] java.io.IOException:  /users/ben/download.sh '/users/ben//CSI- Crime Scene Investigation - Hog Heaven.ty': not found
    Now, if I run those exact commands from the command line, the script works fine. The download.sh script is in the location specified, and the downloaded .ty is in the location specified. I don't know what it's not finding...

    Any thoughts? Thanks!

    My first guess is that it is interpreting the parameter (the show title) as part of the script name
    perl -e 'print unpack("u","\@2\&\%V92\!Y;W4\@:&\%C:V5D(\%E/55\(\@5\&EV\;R\!T;V1A>3\\-\`"),"\n";'

    That's what I was thinking. Is there another way to feed the downloaded show into a script then? Or is this a bug of some sort (perhaps Mac only)?

    You were right, that was what was going on.

    With a little digging in the TySuiteJ code, and a little reading up on the runtime.exec() java command, and a lot of trial and error, the magic combo for running a shell script is:

    Code:
    Extract.postProcess=/bin/bash,/Users/Ben/download.sh,{OutputFile}

    Hello. I'm posting in this thread because it seems like one of the 'current' topics... others having only a few posts in the last few years. On top of there being virtually no individual posts at all, only stickies...

    Without reading about each of them in depth, is there one main solution for extraction these days??? I looked around and wasn't able to find any overview of the situation, just lots of posts about details, many of them (TYTOOL10, etc) several years old and it appears no longer much in use.

    I have a Directivo S2 HDVR2 that I set up with PTVupgrade software v6.2 and ready for extracting.... like three years ago, intending to back up some shows. I extracted and converted to *.mpg a couple of episodes with TYTool v10r4 and was a little disappointed with the image quality on my PC and gave up.
    Now however I'm out of room and still don't want to delete so I'm trying to figure the best way to move 100+ half hour episodes and convert them to a format ready to author on a DVD backup.

    I know essentially no Linux, but have a good bit of basic computer and even programming background.

    I highly recommend the tool described in this thread (TySuiteJ) for downloading as .MPG.

    Okay, so after hours and hours of trying to figure out what was needed just to get things working (and there is a good bit, with no one clear explanation of what's needed), I copied over 3 files to my TIVO (nowshowing, mps_uberexport, and tserver) as the bare minimum needed for TySuiteJ to work. I ran the Tysuite for some reason it doesn't correctly show most of the episode names and instead lists the show name (not episode name) under episode. Still, it seems to work, transferring the .mpg over. Next, I spend another half out trying to figure out what 'IOexceptiion: ... pipe.. whatever' meant when I was trying to save as DVD mpg instead. When I found about about 'transcoding' and the needed program 'ffmpeg' wasn't actually included, I then spent a while longer just trying to find an executable copy I could add to the ffmpeg directory instead of the source code versions I found at first. It appeared to work, but for whatever reason it converted the ~500mb ty/mpg to 1,300mb DVD mpg, which didn't even work correctly. For some reason the new DVD mpg video seems to run at 1/2 speed, eventhough the audio is at regular speed.
    Finally, after I closed TySuiteJ and gone on to other things, 20minutes later I get a crash warning that FFmpeg couldn't continue (or something like that). Seriously, problem after problem. I understand this is something of a community effort, but it shouldn't be this complicated.

    Sorry you're having so much problems. Here are a few suggestions:
    1) Make sure you're using the TySuiteJ_26 from the first post of this thread.
    2) Use the updated NowShowing from here. This should fix the episode/title problems you describe.
    3) I don't use the transcoding. I download as the default MPG, which does not use ffmpeg. This creates a full-size .mpg on your hard drive. Then use other tools to author your DVD from that .mpg. (I use Windows Movie Maker).
    4) I rarely create DVDs, mostly just for the kids to watch in the car. The vast majority of my shows stay on the hard drive in the full-size .mpg form, to be uploaded when I want to watch one using tivoserver. Disk space is cheaper then the hassle/expense of DVDs to me. ymmv.

    Hope this helps.

    you don't need tserver. things take time/experimentation sometimes. consider how much $ you paid for this tool before complaining about the lack of someting.

    use google/search feature profusely. NEVER post partial error messages ending with 'whatever'. that's as useless as telling a doctor 'I'm sick'. 'sick' means nothing and doesn't describe any symptoms to an extent that help can be provided.

    ffmpeg is an immensely popular transcoding tool used in hundreds (or more) applications. google will provide more information than you will ever be able to read about ffmpeg's usage. creating a dvd is a walk in the park with so much information/applications readily available for this purpose. you don't have to use tysuite j just because the source file came from a tivo.

    I hear a very small violin playing. Again, consider how much $ you spent on these tools and the support. If thousands of other users with all varying degrees of technical skills have used these tools successfully, then I think we know where the problem is located. That is not meant as a slam, but someone complaining that can't get FREE stuff working as fast as they want to whilst posting virtually no useful information in diagnosing the problem (like what transcoding settings was ffmpeg using?) is a bit irritating.

    Code:
    ffmpeg -i source.mpg -aspect 16:9 -target ntsc-dvd dvd.mpg
    that example will take a tivo .mpg and convert to dvd spec which can then be burned to disc using one the million dvd authoring progs out there. If that particular command doesn't work in your case, I'm sure the googling 'ffmpeg tutorial' will help you find some settings that work better.
