    Replacing a non-tivo reciever

I finally got a second series 2 dtivo and am planning on setting it up this weekend. I have one (subbed of course) and a plain-vanilla receiver as the second unit on my account. What's the best way to go about replacing it? Can I marry the card in the receiver to the tivo with a 722 call? Should I do that first, then hack?

You can only use the 722 call trick if the DTivo is a non-RID model. Otherwise, you'll have to contact DirecTV and get it activated. This will automatically put you into a 2-year commitment extension with DTV. It doesn't matter whether you hack it now or hack it later, although it's usually a good idea to make sure it works with DTV before you hack it.

Thanks. Looks like I'm all set, as it's a DSR7000.

    Next step

OK - 722 worked with no problem. I'm not sure what to do with the SAT cables though. My current setup is the oval dish with three cables coming into the house. Two of those go to the original sdtivo, and one went to the non-tivo receiver. Is there a multiswitch I can install at the destination to split the signal going to the new tivo and enable both tuners? Or do I need to install one at the source and pull a second cable to it?

There should be a fourth output from the dish you can use. You'll need to run another cable from the dish to the DTivo. If you want to add more receivers down the road you can add a 5x8 multiswitch, run the four leads from the dish to the switch, and then run cables from the switch to the various receivers.
