Doc, one item you missed. Somewhere in the recent software upgrades they added a 'reaction time compensation' like TiVo has (If you're fast forwarding and hit Play it backs up a few seconds, then plays). As you say, it's still not a DirecTiVo; it's got some added features that are nice; it's missing some. But unlike DirecTiVos, we ARE seeing software upgrades frequently.

I don't miss the DLB that much, but again, that's a software feature that may be added if we bitch enough.

Hey, I didn't catch that one! Yea, it's not a Tivo, but it sure is nice not being the bastard stepchild for a change (i.e. getting software updates).

Oh, and the eSATA port on the HR20 is functional and, to my mind, works better than it does on the S3 TiVo in that it does not "marry" to the internal drive, so you can swap drives in and out as you like.

As I recall though, the eSata currently works as a replacement to the internal HD, not in addition to. Unless that's changed recently.

Can the HR20-700 record OTA signal like the HR10-250?

Yes, the eSATA drive replaces the internal drive. Some consider that a benefit, as you can then have several drives that you swap in and out as needed.
