Both shows play fine on the Series 1 Tivo but these errors end up cutting the resulting tivo file short by 3 minutes in 1 case and 9 minutes in the other.

Very similar situation here with several S2 Directivo TMF files. resulting MPG is cut short.

I also have audio problems inserting tivotompg converted TMF files from several S2 Directivos to a Premiere S4. Video is fine, but audio is sometimes distorted, especially loud passages in movies.

I've tried some of the debugging options mentioned in the "troubleshooting errors" post but I can't interpret the data

    any/all help appreicated

more detailed info on the errors

Here's a typical output from a file with these hundreds of "Dropping frame - too old" messages. Warnings occur for both audio and video.

Obviously without getting this fixed I can't do anything with these tmf files right now except upload them back to an S2 tivo.

Happy to post some samples. I have at least a hundred files like this. I checked backup copies and they too had the same errors so it certainly appears to be an encoding problem.

The audio issues seem to be a known problem (read pages 1-3). I just experienced the same thing converting my DirecTiVo programs for my TiVo HD. tytompg 0.21 (the latest version in the old thread) actually seems to have less audio errors than the newer versions. Give that a try.

I did see some comments earlier in the thread about older versions having fewer audio problems. unfortunately when I try it I get similar results with the older tytompg-0.21 - shortened file, 122k audio and 87k video errors

I can post the error logs and some samples of the files for those interested.

    any update?

guys - any update at all appreciated. I do realize many of you have moved on from the S2s. Just trying to do the same here but I've got a bunch of stranded TMFs.

I'll try to transfer them back to the directivos and redownload them..

I recommend you narrow down your problem to a few problem chunks (using tychopper or dd as described many times in the past).
It is likely that the errors you're seeing are due to broadcast errors (could be buggy transmission gear or reception problems on your part).
tytompg is known to not handle all such errors gracefully and that's not likely to change.
As usual the default error messages with no debugging turned on are not enough to fully identify the problem. Those error messages are really meant to warn you and to direct you where to look for problems in your recordings.
I'm surprised you are expecting an update; I didn't see you submit any problem streams.
If you want to do the legwork, narrowing down the problem to a few chunks and submitting a sample I could take a look.
If I botched something, I could provide a fix. If your streams are busted, I don't plan to fix the code to be more robust in the face of errors.

Normally for cameras that record in mpeg4, you would want to load the content into a non-linear editor such as final cut, edit, and then export the final product into whatever you like such as an mpeg4 encoded .mov/avi. final cut with prores 422 codec does a good job of not introducing any artifacts (its probably better than the avchd codec in your camera).
I can't imagine you really want to preserve all the camera shake/resettling footage after all.

If you want free there's always ffmpeg.

videoredo probably can remux avchd at this point if you insist; I haven't tried it.

    Mac batch tytompg

For Mac tytompg users, here is a simple batch processor. Put it in the same folder with an OS X tytompg and a bunch of tmf's, etc. Make sure it's executable and then double click. All the videos in the folder will be converted to mpegs. The terminal window will close if you set (not the default) Terminal Preferences/Shell/When the shell exits/Close if the shell exited cleanly. The Terminal application itself remains open because there may be other processes running.

Is there a time limit on file attachments? These still show in Google's cache, but I can't see them anymore.

Pulling everything from an S2 before replacing with a Bolt, and a few shows have timestamp problems using tytompg-0.21,
so thought a newer/different version might help.

If anyone has a copy they could share, it would be much appreciated.
It appears that bcc hasn't been here in a few years, so I'd hate to bug him by email.

The license included would seem to allow redistribution, so I'm attaching tytompg-0.21.zip for anyone in need.
