monte is not a requirement for any tivo, though it can have advantages. you can just use a straight killhdinitrd'd kernel.
This sound like a stupid question, but do I still need to monte on a dsr704?
I reimaged the drive for 6.2 software on to a 300gb hard drive. I used alphawolf's mini-image.

do I still use kernel 3.1.1c with killhdinitrd ran on it or do I use another one instead?

Either 3.1.5 or 7.2.2-oth-K1 for 6.2 software (you need a Linux 2.4.20 kernel).
Do I still need to run killhdinitrd on the kernel that came with alphwolfs 6.2small?

The kernel that came with TiVo OS 3.1.5 and TiVo OS 7.2.2 are both Linux 2.4.20 Kernels. Both of them can be used with killhdinitrd.
TiVo OS 6.2 also uses a Linux 2.4.20 kernel, so you can replace 6.2's version of the 2.4.20 kernel with either the 3.1.5 or 7.2.2 and it'll still work.
Also, I was using these instructions to build a serial cable:
http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/sh...59&postcount=5
I found which wire corresponds to which section on the stereo plug, but in those directions they are referenced by color and mine are different colors. So how do I know where each one connects on the serial cable?
You can always just use a multi-meter to find out which wire is which.

Can I use fakecall to make the initial call?
