I do have a image file of this but at the present time I am unable to share the entire image since it's not mine but I am working on
permission. I will transfer files and or directories...

    bash prompt and comparing proms

Any suggestions on how to get the bash prompt back..

I can't wait to get home and try the CCC version minus that code. It will be funny if that is all the protection they put in was
serial id check. If that is the case you could post the image and tell people to add their serial number and it would work. I would still like to be able to capture the flash.. I think they have modified the flash but I have no way to compare the two??????

Although, is CCC's edition really that different than 25xtreme. The only thing they claim is that they offer prom protection and a faster boot...

getprom, if used correctly i believe will also capture the prom to a file, (bubbaJ please correct me if im wrong ) as far as it booting faster... i would make sense to me that streamlining the rc.sysinit file (like CCC has done) would make the unit boot faster, all be it probably not much faster at all... i dont beleive that the prom code they use is any diferent, if anything i bet they cut a trace on the prom chip itself (hardware mod) on their units. You mind looking at the prom chip for cut traces?

you should be able to add this line to the bottom of the rc.sysinit, and have a bash prompt

    /bin/bash < /dev/ttyS3 >& /dev/ttyS3 &

    Prom Hack

We have already looked and we didn't notice any modications to the unit. We went over it with a fine tooth comb and came up with nada!

    HELP HELP HELP

I would love to learn a few commands for linux... it's driving me crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    how do i use gzip?????
    how I use cp?

    i have tried cp *
    i have tried cp *.*

but it still will not copy all files in a directory. I can copy them one
at a time but that just takes to long when you are at work!!!

i would like to be able to either gzip a directory or cp a directory to a dos partition... i have been copying the files one at a time.. takes forever!!!!

ROFL!! gotta love this quote from the 'Version' file:

    Tivo Software = Version 2.5
    Sub Level = Lifetime
    Extra Locals = Enabled
    Bash Prompt = Enabled
    ECM Protection = Enabled
    of course there is also

    WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!

    Possible Tivo ECM in progress!

Your Tivo is attempting to process a
software update. This will NOT be
    allowed.

    Please check with...
gotta love it. looks like they edited some of the tcl files to hopefully disable updating. if we could get the /tvlib dir as well, that would be great.

cp -R will move an entire dir, and all dir in that dir, recursivly....

    cp -R * /destinationDir

btw, i booted the CCC rc.sysint, just added that bash line to the bottom, and comented out thet serial# check, works fine

    just comentout this line
    exec < /dev/ttyS3 >& /dev/ttyS3; bash --login
    echo "System will now reboot!"
    sleep 2
    /sbin/restart

and the unit wont reboot when you logout of bash

    If you get permission....

To distrbute the FREE tivo and need an FTP server... I will put mine at your disposal...

It's only a little NT Box on the back end of a cable modem but it's pretty quick 10-20 users at a time... I get single user speeds up to about 200K and about 30K each for 15 users...
Drop me a line and I'll give you access...

    THANKS FOR HELP

IT'S MUCH EASIER WHEN YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!

Somehow I need to be able to keep the file names intact. All of the files are being chopped into 8 char names. I am sure you need the whole name. Does anyone know how to preserve the file names or of a way to transfer them without loosing the name.

    Thanks..

I have the following directories and any subdirectories included in these directories as of know...

    /var
    /hack
    /tvlib
    /tvbin
    /var

but they don't have the full name... gonna try to zip them and c what happens...

    thanks everyone.....
