3 questions follow.I have a question about what steps I should do next.
Only you can answer this one. You'll get about 2 weeks of program data with the trial using a maximum of 2 inputs (satellite, cable, cable with converter, antenna); thereafter, if you don't subscribe, nags, clock updates and (so I've heard) software updates. If you are into this for the season passes, recommendations, recorded program info, thumbs up/down kind of stuff, the sooner you sub the happier you will be.Besides the 60gb upgrade, I am getting my Tivonet card this week and need to know if I should turn my subscription on now or later?
Again, this is up to you. You are making an assumption that you can actually get TiVo to phone home successfully over ethernet, which may take some doing, depending on a lot of variables. I personally had no problems, but YMMV. All you can do is try, and if it doesn't work, ask questions.Should I let it call out using Tivonet or over the phone line.
Is the local access number truly local for you? You don't know this because you haven't run the Guided Setup. Or is it what is termed "local" long distance, which can be costly. Remember, TiVo wants to call up nightly, so many people only connect the phone line every 4 days or so if it is a toll call. If you let TiVo use the internet you don't pay for the phone call, and this may be only the beginning of what TiVo can do for you over ethernet.
This is the beginning of all serious, major, irreversible screw-ups. Nobody ever got into serious trouble from too many backups. Don't think. Just do it. It may save you a lot of heartache down the road.I didn't think I needed to backup the 1.3 version when I got it since I had a working backup.
Yes, it does if you plan on letting TiVo phone home. To what degree? Do a search on 'moron' for more info.Does it matter that I'm using a different image than what it came with?
I'm newbie at this as much as you, but this is what I've learned so far. I defer to those that know more than I do, of course.
