Bought Universal CD Version 11 Install Help Needed :(

Hello Everyone,

I've strated a new thread so someone can help me.
Here are some facts:

1. I've TIVO Series 60 GB stand-alone (Model #TCD140060).

2. I've connected drive the following arrangement:
CD-ROM Drive MASTER/Primary Jumper ON [CL]
TIVO Western Digital 60GB Drive [Model# WDC WD600AW-00DDK1] MASTER/Secondary Jumper ON [CL SELECT]
NEW MAXSTOR 200 GB Drive SLAVE Seconday
(note: a) My PC config Pentium III 333 MHz, 512 MB RAM. b) My MS Windows Drive is not connected any IDE channels basically offline.)

3. When my PC boots up and it see the CD-ROM and 60GB Western Digital Drive and not seeing 200 GB Maxstor drive. Please note that I installed the MAXSTOR drive right out of the box without creating any partitions. I thoung that the Unversal CD will partition the drive.

4. After Boot from the PTVUpgrade Universal CD Version 11 the following things happens:

a) it give me the boot option
<enter> lba48 kernel, great for backups and/restors and working with disks larger than 137GB.... I selected the enter key

b) screen srcoll up with lot of text

c) Partioon check:
hdc:hdc: lost interrupt
hdc timeout waiting for DMA
ide_dmaproc: chipset suppoted ide_dma_timeout funcoly 14

d) just hanging....

Can some help me please? BTW, I'm a newbiew, I bought Unversal CD to make my life easier but my progress it's not going the way I expected....

over & out,

sohotader...

You're trying to use CableSelect, so who knows what order your machine is trying to put the devices. I'd suggest jumpering the drives exactly the way you want them and not use CS.

So, you're saying to take out CableSelect jumper from all the connected drive drives (CD-ROM, TIVO HD and NEW Drive)

No. He's saying to hard-jumper them as master or slave (as appropriate).

TIVO Western Digital 60GB Drive MASTER/Secondary
NEW MAXTOR 200 GB Drive SLAVE Seconday

My PC config Pentium III 333 MHz, 512 MB RAM. Is this right machine to UPGRADE or should I use better macine...

Depends on the BIOS. If the stuff that scrolls by (accessed by SHIFT-PGUP) recognizes the 200GB drive properly the machine will be fine for upgrades (I use a PIII-500). Otherwise, use something newer (or upgrade the BIOS firmware if that's an option).

Off the top of my head, I'd suspect a motherboard bios that doesn't support LBA-48. Pentium III 333 Mhz is pretty old; Ihad a similar problem with a 900 Mhz system until I updated the bios.

Drive connection looked okay. Cable select only works with the right cable IIRC. Use hard jumpers.

No, mfsrestore will lay down the appropriate partition map, and do formatting for the linux partitions.

If you want, you can try the manufacturer drive diagnostics and run a full check on the drive before using it. This should fix any potential bad sectors before you start running it on your tivo.

Oppps, I've already created a partition for 200 GB and fat32 filesystem..

Ok, I booted up with th PTVupgrade UNIVERSAL CD and from boot prompt I typed in "series2" and after that ...

Shows -> You booted this CD in 'lba48' or 'series2' mode which means you can work with very larg drives (greater than 137GB).

Throws me to PTVupgrade /# prompt...

I was expecting at least copy replicate my tivo drive to th new drive...

Thanks Narf54321.. for the repy....

Where do I go from here?
